From Linear to Exponential: How Change in Perspective Helped Me Achieve My Goals

Many of us have dreams and goals that we want to achieve, but sometimes, we get stuck in the mindset that progress is a linear process. I can attest to this, especially when it comes to pursuing my creative dreams and professional goals in the fibre industry. However, when I shifted my perspective and started viewing progress as exponential, everything changed. In this blog post, I will share my journey of how a change in perspective helped me achieve my goals.

For a long time, I was under the impression that progress in any pursuit was always linear- consistent and proportionate. However, I soon realized that my ideas were not only limiting me but also stunting my potential growth. I started measuring my progress with a rigid yardstick instead of seeing the smaller, but vital improvements I was making each day. This mindset made me feel like I was not progressing, leading to frustration and even discouragement.

Then I came across the book “The Compound Effect” which introduced me to the concept of exponential growth. It highlighted how small, profound changes accumulate over time, leading to significant leaps of growth. This understanding has reshaped my perspective on progress, emphasizing the importance of the day-to-day tasks, developing consistent, sustainable habits and finding the magic in the mundane.

Along with the change in mindset, I had to acknowledge that exponential growth takes time. It doesn't happen overnight. Or even over the course of a few days, weeks or even months. I had to practice patience and grace with myself, reminding myself that every small victory was crucial for overall growth. In embracing this, I found myself feeling more at peace and less stressed about my progress. Instead, I was more confident in pursuing my creative and professional aspirations.

The exponential mindset translated into my daily life quickly. I was more open to new ideas and opportunities, and I wasn't worried about failing. I found a new sense of momentum with every small step I took towards my goals. In addition, I started reaching out to others in my industry for collaborations and partnerships, recognizing that there was strength in working together. The exponential mindset had become a powerful force driving me towards achieving my goals.

Finally, as I embraced the exponential mindset and saw progress for what it was, I began to enjoy the journey more. I found that I was more curious, more excited about exploring new things in my passion, and less worried about the end results. I have realized that the journey is as important as the destination, and I am grateful to have been reminded of that.

Changing the way I thought about progress changed everything for me. Transforming from a perspective of linear to exponential, I learned to celebrate the small wins, embrace the process, and have faith in the journey. As creative entrepreneurs, we can take a cue from this and apply an exponential mindset in our approach to life. I hope this blog post motivates you to think a little differently about progress and inspires you in pursuing your goals. Remember, every small win is a step towards exponential growth!
